describe, portray, depict

这三个词都表示“描绘”或“描写”。

describe表示用文字进行详细的描述，使听众或读者对被描述的东西有清晰的印象或感受，例如：

Words can't describe her beauty.言语无法形容她的美丽。

portray表示用绘画、雕塑、表演、描绘等艺术手段表现人物、感情、品质等；也用于描绘抽象的东西，例如：

The painting portrays a lady in the setting sun.那幅画画的是斜阳下的女士。

depict表示用文学作品、绘画等艺术手段表现某种情景，强调色彩及细节描绘；也表示故意不真实地“描写”，含贬义，例如：

The novel depicts the landscape in the Southwest of Britain.小说展现了英国西南部的景色。
