people
1. people, person
在英国英语中，person的常用复数形式为people；然而一些美国作家在这方面比较保守，在指一定数量的人时，尤其指较少数量的人时，喜欢用persons， 例如：
Seven persons were injured in the accident.有7个人在事故中受了伤。
在英国英语中，person这个词很正式，只用于与法律有关的情形中，或其它正式文体，例如：
He was murdered by a person or persons unknown.他被不知姓名的人杀害了。
2. a people
a people作“民族”解为可数，其复数为peoples，与作集合名词、意为“人们”的 people不同。试比较：
The Chinese are a hard-working people.中华民族是一个勤劳的民族。
