inspect, superintend, supervise, oversee
这几个词都含有“监督”、“监视”义。inspect, superintend和supervise都表示对人、工作等进行“监督”的同时起着控制、指导的作用。
inspect侧重表示对质量等进行彻底的“检查”、“审查”，有挑毛病、错误的含义，例如：
After they had finished building the wall the foreman inspected it to make sure they'd done it properly. 他们砌好墙后，工头仔细看了一遍，以确保质量没有问题。
superintend相当正式，表示“监督”一群人。例如：An adult should be present to superintend the children's activities.应该有个成年人照看孩子们的活动。
supervise既可表示“监督”一群人(的工作)，又可表示“监督”一个人，例如：
Who is supervising them?谁在监督他们？oversee过去表示“监督”奴隶的工作，因此现在侧重表示“监督”某人进行较为艰苦的劳动，例如：
