1.enough
1)enough通常用于形容词、副词之后。例如:
good enough足够好/carefully enough足够认真
It's late enough for you to go home.已经够晚的了,你该回家了。
2)enough一般用于名词之前。
Have we got enough water? 我们的水够吗?
enough有时放在不可数名词(如:time,money,room,food等)之后,意义上与放在名词之前没有区别。例如:
Have I got time enough to go to the bank? 我要去银行,时间够吗?这种用法稍显正式和过时,在现代英语中已不常见了。
There isn't enough time.时间不够了。
2. enough, sufficient,adequate
这三个词都可作“足够的”解,修饰名词,表示数量。例如:
Will you have enough/sufficient/adequate money for the trip?你有足够的钱支付这趟旅行的费用吗?
其区别在于:
在复数名词前只用enough和sufficient。例如:
Are there enough/sufficient apples for everyone?有足够的苹果分给每个人吗?
adequate往往带有一点否定的意味,表示数量勉强够。例如:
The water supply here is adequate.这里水的供应勉强能跟上。
另外,在修饰抽象名词时往往用sufficient而不用enough。试比较:
In Hong Kong the water supply is not sufficient.在香港,水的供应是不足的。In Hong Kong the water is not sufficient/enough.在香港,水是不够的。
3. adequate也可表示质量,意为“够好的”。试比较:
The prisoners received adequate food.犯人有相当好(质好或量足)的食物。
The prisoners received sufficient/enough food.犯人的食物够吃的。
4. 在用法上,sufficient和adequate都比enough更正式一些。
