expand, enlarge, swell, inflate
这四个词都含“扩大”之义。其区别在于：
expand表示向各个方向“扩展”，多用在宽度、体积、面积、规模等方面的扩大；也表示“扩大知识(或兴趣、业务等)”。例如：
The street has been expanded.街道拓宽了。
enlarge表示尺寸、规模的扩大，尤指“扩大房屋(或场所等)”、“增加经验”、“扩展眼界”、“放大照片”等。例如：
The picture has been enlarged.这张照片已经放大了。
swell表示由于内部压力增大或本身内容的增添而有所“扩大”，常指超过正常范围。例如：
The population has swelled to twice its size.人口增长了一倍。
inflate表示注入气体“使膨胀”，可引申为“华而不实”。例如：
