用法说明
series, sequence, succession
series表示“系列”,可以有先后衔接的次序,也可以没有。一个系列的东西一定自成一个完整的单位。sequence则表示有先后衔接的次序,可表示事态发生的先后顺序,也可以是逻辑上论点的前后衔接。succession比series更强调一个接着一个的次序。试比较:
They carried out a series of experiments to test the new drug. 他们为检验这种新药进行了一系列实验。
The sequence of events on the night of the murder is still unknown. 谋杀案发生的那个晚上发生的一系列事件的先后次序至今仍未清楚。
It happened five times in succession. 这种情况接连发生了五次。
