finish, complete, terminate

这三个词都可作“结束”解。其区别在于：

finish最为常用，指该做的事情已经“结束”、“做完”，表示“结束做某事”时用动名词作宾语。例如：

The children finished all the pies.孩子们把馅饼全吃光了。

I've just finished reading this book.我刚刚看完这本书。

complete表示“圆满结束”工作或任务，强调完整无缺和达到了预期的要求，有时可与finish换用，只作及物动词。试比较：

complete a successful attack进攻大获全胜

We have finished his novel.他的小说我们看完了。

The writer has completed/finished his new novel.作者的新书完成了。

terminate强调终止、结束，也含有“提前终止”之义，不可与complete换用，但有时可与finish换用。此外，terminate还可表示合同或协约等“期满结束”。例如：

Let's terminate/finish this meeting by ten p.m.咱们在晚上10点前结束会议吧。

The contract has terminated.合同到期了。
