用法说明
reside, live, dwell, inhabit这四个词均可作“居住”解,表示短期或长久地住在一个地方。reside非常正式,侧重表示合法和永久地居住,定居,例如:
The British Prime Minister resides at 10 Downing Street. 英国首相居住在唐宁街10号。
live与reside相比,较为普通常用,例如:She has been living abroad. 她一直定居国外。
Where do you live now? 你现在住在哪儿?
dwell多用于诗歌及其它文学作品中,表示居住在某个地方,例如:
A woodsman and his family dwelt in the middle of the forest. 护林人和他的家人住在森林深处。
inhabit表示人或动物居住在或栖居于某个地方或适应某种特定的环境,也可表示把某个地方当作家或庇护所,例如:
There is an island inhabited only by birds. 有一个只有鸟类栖息的岛。
