discover, find, detect

这三个词都含有“发现”或“找到”之义。

discover表示“寻找”已经存在的但对寻找者来说是新的事物，例如：

Do you know who discovered America?你知道是谁发现美洲的吗？

find则表示“寻找”丢失的或新的东西；也可表示“找到”解决问题的办法或做某事的时间、资金等，例如：

I finally found my bunch of keys in the drawer.我最后在抽屉里找到了我的那串钥匙。

find a solution寻找解决办法

How do you find time to finish this book?你是怎么挤出时间完成这本书的？

detect比较正式，表示有目的、有意识地“发现”，强调极其仔细地观察并进行推断，以得出结论，例如：

The police detected the identity of the murderer.警方查出了凶手的身份。
